On the road again
This month finds me in Latin America where I am travelling a little rough to be honest. But when we do travel, as in life, sometimes seemingly unimportant or trivial decisions can impact us in profound ways.
Part 1
From my stool in the cantina I had a clear view of the Village Square and the going on around it, except at this hour not much was happening. It was the hottest part of the day and even the dogs had given up their continuous barking and had retreated to the shade. The only active person being the ice cream seller and naturally, the children begging their parents for another cold treat.
The men sat in the shade, their sombreros drawn low over their eyes. It was Sunday. The bus that was meant to take me out of this dusty town hadn’t come, it was over two hours late and being a Sunday, I was beginning to doubt that it would come at all.
I was trying to think of alternate options but the unbearable heat stifled my thoughts. No solutions were at hand. I sat and waited. A heat wave shimmered off the oven baked road. Nothing moved. No-one else seemed to be waiting for the bus which was worrying. It was just too hot to do anything about it. Now, I was just waiting for the heat of the day to pass. Unable to make any other decision just then.
As I was contemplating this, the bus thundered into town, choking us with dust and scattering everything in its path. I clambered onboard past chickens and produce and hanging on, the bus sped out of town leaving as abruptly as it had come.
Little did I know what lay in store for me…
Next week paid subscribers find out where the bus ends up taking me.
Don’t miss the bus as I nearly did. Break the firewall for one month and find out.
I look forward to seeing you on the bus next week.
